What computer specification do I need to operate my account?

We recommend the following minimum requirements for use of our online banking facilities:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, or Netscape 4.7 browser. To find your browser version select "Help" from the tool bar on your PC software, click on "About" and the browser version will be displayed.
  • PC running a Java script enabled browser, with a display resolution of 800x600 or above.
  • Whilst MACS are not one of our supported systems our website is written in such a way as to allow access by as many different operating systems and browser combinations as possible.
  • A printer will be required.

How do I log into my account?

Choose 'Your Accounts Log On' button towards the top right hand corner of the website and follow the instructions.

How do I view my transactions?

Once you have logged on to your account using your Customer ID Number, password and security details, simply click on your account number. You will be able to view all your transactions to date.

My interest rate is 0.25% below the advertised rate or at 0.10%. Did the rate go down?

When you apply for a Demand Online account you will be asked to specify whether you want the interest on your account to be paid on an annual basis or on a monthly basis. The monthly interest rate will always be 0.25% below the annual rate.

The minimum deposit amount for the Demand Online account is €1,000. Account balances below the minimum investment will receive interest at the prevailing basic savings rate, currently 0.10% gross p.a.

How secure is Demand Online?

Demand Online has been developed with security as a top priority. We've implemented several layers of security and provide a high level of encryption.

Recent reports have confirmed that some online customers of other major Irish and UK Banks have become targets of fraudulent e-mail scams, where customers have been requested to provide or confirm their security details. Northern Rock will never request customers to divulge personal security details either over the telephone, in an electronic message, or in any written communication. If you receive any requests of this nature or if you are concerned you may have divulged your security details, please contact our Customer Service line on (01) 602 0324. Lines are open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Friday, excluding bank and public holidays.

Can this account be operated by Power of Attorney?

This account can also be operated by Power of Attorney, however some restrictions apply regarding the operation of the account.

From 1 August 2009, customers who open a deposit account will be requested to provide their Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) on the application form. The PPSN will be included in the Annual Return of Interest Report.

1. DIRT will automatically be deducted at the standard rate (currently 25%) from interest paid/credited to your account, unless you are eligible and have registered to receive interest gross by completing a DIRT Exemption Declaration for each account you hold.

2. AER stands for Annual Equivalent Rate and shows what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and added to the capital balance each year.
