If you are a Republic of Ireland resident aged 18 years or over you can apply online now. Once we have advised you of your account number, your initial lodgement can be made. This can be any amount from €1,000 up to a maximum of €3 million per investor.

From 1 August 2009, customers who open a deposit account will be requested to provide their Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) on the application form. The PPSN will be included in the Annual Return of Interest Report to the Irish Revenue Commissioners.

initial deposit

Your initial deposit can be made by cheque (posted to our Dublin office), electronic transfer, or transfers from an existing Northern Rock account (subject to the terms and conditions of that account). Cheques should be made payable to 'NR for the A/c of (insert account holder/s name/s)' and crossed 'A/c payee only'.

Transfer from existing Northern Rock account.

If you are opening your Demand Online Account by transfer from an existing Northern Rock notice account (subject to the terms and conditions of that account), your Demand Online application form will act as your advice of notice to be placed on your notice account (unless indicated that immediate transfer is required). We will advise you of when the appropriate notice becomes valid, and your funds will be transferred to your Demand Online Account once notice has been served. We will not write to you separately to advise of this transfer. Please note that this process only applies when opening your Demand Online Account.

We regret that it will not be possible to open an account unless suitable confirmation of identity is provided and we may return your investment to you. Details of suitable forms of identity are documented on the Confirmation of ID page. If you cannot provide the suitable identification documents, please contact our offices and we will endeavour to resolve this issue.

Once we receive your application, together with all the documentation necessary to confirm identity and address, we will open your account and confirm your details by letter.

2. AER stands for Annual Equivalent Rate and shows what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and added to the capital balance each year.
